Assistant Teaching Professionals of Troon affiliated properties around the United States put forth remarkable efforts at the 2020 National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship, played on the Wanamaker Course at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Aaron Purviance of Red Ledges in Utah and Jin Chung of Château Élan Golf Club, both got off to blazing starts to the weekend with opening-round 67s to be tied atop the leaderboard after round 1. Florida’s entire Treasure Coast is in the early stages of drying out from its battle with Tropical Storm Eta. As a result, only 15 of 132 players in the field finished under par.

“I played great first day,” Chung told Troon.com. “Shot 67 and was tied for 1st and that was when I realize I could contend in the event.”

Chung would continue his strong play through the weekend with a 72 and 70 for rounds 2 and 3 putting him in the final group for the final round. Ultimately, Chung went on to finish second after at 71 in the final round and finishing 8-under par for the tournament. Just two shots behind Gunner Wiebe from Los Angeles, CA who finished 10-under par.

“I finished 2 shots short but I gave it all until the end,” mentioned Chung. “Happy to contend in such a good and big event!”

Chung was one of three pros from Troon-affiliated properties to finish in the top 20 at the event. The aforementioned Aaron Purviance finished just behind Chung at T3 finishing 6-under par for the week. With finishing top 4, he and Chung receive exemptions to 2021’s championship as well. Michael Hopper of Lookout Mountain Golf Club finished T18 and even par for the week.
