Troon Value: Relentlessly Dedicated With Matt Love
Matt Love, PGA Head Golf Professional

Q: What is an eating/snack tip you recommend to your students?
A: I would highly recommend rationing. I suggest to my students, especially golfers that still like to play competitively to eat a little something before, front nine, and back nine. Whether that be a protein shake, trail mix, PB sandwich, nabs “what we call sandwich crackers in Kentucky”, banana or apple. You ideally want to keep your blood sugar up in most conditions so that you do not feel run down and not focused on golf.
Q: What is a good stretching or meditation series you like your students to take part in prior to starting their round or practice session?
A: The most often injuries that I hear from our members and most players that I have crossed paths with over the years are knee or back issues.
With that being said, I like to recommend a combination of leg curls: hold the back of a golf cart/bag stand, bend your knee and bring your heel up toward your buttock. Avoid bending at the hip. I would also recommend a traditional hamstring stretch: “touch your toes”. These exercises are good ways to keep those problem areas strong and less prone to injuries.
Q: What is a goal you have for yourself to promote better mental/physical wellbeing for you in 2024?
A: My goal is very simple: Continue to increase our members’ activity at the club. In our department, we want our members to participate in activities at the club, use the driving range/practice facility, play golf, use our workout, tennis and aquatics facilities.
We believe the more that our members are active in using our facilities the better their physical and mental well-being in the long term.
Q: What is one interesting fact about yourself that not many people know?
My family is full of very accomplished artists. My mom and dad were both very accomplished visual artists and art teachers for 30+ years each. My sister is an animatic editor in Los Angeles and my uncle is a very accomplished musician who is currently the managing director for a California based A Capella group “Chanticleer”.
Although I didn’t have the skill set to follow in those footsteps, I relish the creativity that I am surrounded with throughout my life.
